The Care4Growing project was awarded a European Award for Cooperative Innovation, organised by Cogeca in the framework of the International Day of Cooperatives. The aim of the award is to recognise outstanding cooperative innovation in the agricultural, food, fisheries and forestry sectors. The award was previously presented in 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2017. This fifth edition aims to highlight innovative projects and services at the cooperatives and stimulate innovation in the sector.
The award aims to promote actions that add value to the European cooperatives’ members, develop new markets and innovate products and services. Its ultimate goals being an exchange of best practices and knowledge, and the encouragement of a qualitative development of innovation processes – all for the benefit of producers, EU citizens and the environment.
The focus of the 2020-2021 edition is on sustainable innovation. Developing new markets, products, services and processes in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable way is extremely important in the current market and political climate. The award therefore seeks to recognise outstanding innovation and value creation that takes economic, social and environmental factors into account, from concept over research and development, to marketing. Products, services, projects, programs, technologies, new business models and organisational structures were invited to participate.
The Care4Growing project was selected as winner in the category Economic Value Creation – Traceability and Consumer Information because Care4Growing demonstrates how the cooperative model is an important tool to respond to the new challenges, to switch to more sustainable food systems and to further achieve ecological, economic and social benefits.
